Caged 9 years for sexual assault on own daughter
The Ntchisi First Grade Magistrate Court has convicted and sentenced 21 year old Mateyu Kaputa to 9 years imprisonment with hard labour for defiling his one year-old biological daughter.
According to Ntchisi Police Public Relations Officer Sergeant Gladson M’bumpha, the incident happened on 7th March at Nandeta village in the area of Traditional Authority Vusojere in the district.
“The convict defiled the child when his wife had gone to do a piece work at a nearby village,” explained M’bumpha.
He said Kaputa’s wife told police that when she returned home to breast feed the child, she found her husband carrying the child who was at that time naked and bleeding.
“When she asked him what had happened to the child, her husband failed to explain,” M’bumpha said.
The victim’s mother later reported the matter to Mwangala Police Unit and police took the child to Mwangala Health Centre where medical examination revealed that the child was indeed defiled.
In mitigation, the convict pleaded with the court for leniency saying he looks after his elderly parents.
Passing judgement, First Grade Magistrate Kingsley Buleya said the offence was serious and the offender deserve a stiffer penalty to deter would be offenders.
Kaputa hails from Nandeta village in the area of Traditional Authority Vusojere in Ntchisi.
