Paramount Chief Lundu has ridiculed late President Bingu wa Mutharika for using presidential powers to rename lower shire district if Chikwawa to Chikhwawa.
Lundu ordered the name to revert to Chikwawa which President Joyce Banda and her Minister of Land and Housing, Henry Duncan Phoya supported.
“The other president [Bingu wa Mutharika], I don’t know what went wrong with him, whether he was intoxicated or it was something else, I don’t know; but he chose to single-handedly rename the district to Chikhwawa. We all know its Chikwawa and it should remain so”, said Lundu.
President Joyce Banda upheld Paramount Chief Lundu’s wish and said with immediate effect the district would be called by its old name.
“I recall that day when my predecessor was here. He changed the name to Chikhwawa and all of us including the Paramount Chief Lundu here supported it. But what else can I do, the Paramount Chief has ordered the district should revert to its old name,” said Banda.
