Call it Kamuzu Palace, JB names Malawi New State House
Malawi President Joyce Banda on Saturday named the New State House- Kamuzu Palace.
Making the announcement during a rally she held in Kasungu district, President Banda said this decision was made in order to honor the founding President of the republic of Malawi, Ngwazi Hastings Kamuzu Banda.
President Banda said she has great respect for Kamuzu. She said the New State House which is not new as it was built many years deserved a name and that of Kamuzu Palace befits the building.
“It was Kamuzu Banda who built that house, I therefore announce today that from today it shall be called Kamuzu Palace,” said Banda to the ululating crowd that gathered a few kilometers outside Kamuzu Academy.
President Banda hailed the founding president describing him a man of great vision and that she has learnt a lot from what Kamuzu achieved.
She praised Kamuzu for building Kamuzu Academny and for making sure that his people then did not suffer from hunger.
Speaking on behalf of the Kamuzu Family Ken Kandodo who is minister of Defense hailed Banda for honoring Kamuzu in that manner.
Kandodo said the family is very happy with development, saying they have always appreciated the respect President Banda has had for Kamuzu.
Banda was in the district to attend the Founders Day at Kamuzu Academy.
