Carlsberg Cup venue row: Moyale threatens to boycott fixture against Nomads

Moyale Barracks have threatened that they will not play against Mighty Be Forward Wanderers in the Carlsberg Cup semi-finals at Civo Stadium in Lilongwe, asking Football Association of Malawi (FAM) to reschedule the fixture to Mzuzu Stadium, their base.

The club has made their position known in a letter sent to FAM signed by team’s general secretary Lieutenant PMK Gausi.

“We believe every competition in football is based on the principle of fairness, sportsmanship and entertainment apart from marketing policy of the sponsors. We have come to realization that it has been your intention throughout the competition to deliberate and frustrate Moyale Barracks by scheduling all our games away from our home ground and supporters whom you are well aware that they are based in Mzuzu,” reads part of the letter seen by Nyasa Times.

Moyale claimed this year’s competition has been “a classic example of poor management, a supposed reflection of current FAM administration which fails to see obvious unwelcome politics in football.”

Reads the letter: “We would not want to bring in a controversy of Moyale Barracks fail to pitch in on the venue of the competition because of your apparent unfairness, un sportsmanship and shear incompetence as regards to basic rules of the game of football.”

Moyale queried FAM’s “mediocre explanation,” that Civo stadium is a neutral venue for Moyale FC and Wanderers, querying “how about Big Bullets and Silver Strikers is Kamuzu stadium a neutral venue?”

am a nomad fan, but i feel soldiers haver a point. before Fam release the fixture inenso i was sure kuti game ikakhala pa mzuzu stadium taking into consideration that nomads we played the quarter finals against Dedza young soccer at our home ground and Moyale was away, the same as silver and BB respectively. For the fairness of the game Moyale ikuyenela kumenya pa kwawo mu semi finals, Fam isayan’gane zopha makwacha pa civo basi, apatseni mwayi anthu aku Mzuzu awonele game, tikawamenyele pakwawo pompo.

This is a cup game and can be played at any ground chosen by the organizers. Remember that Moyale sailed through to the semis away, why did they not complain? Why now? Let the games be played at the chosen grounds. Full stop. Nyerere take care, the soldiers are playing a mind game. Don’t relax.
