Carlsberg Malawi Breweries Limited has drummed up support for the soccer fraternity to help Football Association of Malawi by buying Umbro replica jerseys for the nationa team.
Twikale Chirwa, Senior Brands Manager for Carlsberg Malawi, said the brewery would procure jerseys for promotion.
Chirwa said the company would buy 1,500 from the 5,000 replica jerseys consignment FAM has procured to give out to their consumers for promotion activities.
He said this was in line with the company drive’s to help the Flames commercialisation campaign.
“As the number supporters of the Flames we have to live by example and demonstrate that we are indeed the number one sponsor of the Flames together with the Malawi national by buying these replica jerseys not for resale but to give away exclusively to consumers in promotional activities,” he said.
He also disclosed that the company had exclusive rights to brand the Umbro jerseys.
“I would like to mention that as official sponsor of the national team Carlsberg has the got the right to brand national team regalia and equipment other apparel. However the jerseys are a business venture by Football Association of Malawi,” he said.
The British sportswear firm officially unveiled its partnership with Malawi on Tuesday in Blantyre in a colourful ceremony alongside Carlsberg.
FAM, who invested K52 million into the project, is targeted to make a profit of K20 million.
