Carlsberg Malawi launches Chill DJs competition: K300, 000 winner’s prize
Disk Jockeys ( DJs) in Malawi can now breathe a sigh of relief following Carlsberg Malawi announcement on Monday to have launched a competition called Chill Djs Battle 2013 which will help to unearth the talents of DJs in the country.
The launcing function, which was graced by Carlsberg Malawi officials, competing Djs and journalists took place at the Carlsberg Makata Head Offices in Blantyre.
Speaking during the launch, Carlsberg Malawi Senior brand manager alcoholic Twikale Chirwa said it pleased the company to appreciate the role local Djs play when it comes to promoting the brand Chill in drinking joints.
“The brand Chill is cool and we thought it wise that we celebrate with our Djs, who do a lot when it comes to promoting the brand in many of the drinking joints,” he said.
Chirwa said the competition which is slated to kick-off on October 25, 2013 at Blue Elephant in Blantyre will see eight Djs from Blantyre and Lilongwe respectively.
“In total we will have sixteen Djs who will battle for K300, 000.00. People should expect stiff competition because our aim at the end of the competition is to come up with the best Dj in Malawi,” he said.
Chirwa also said from Blantyre they have chosen radio Djs while Lilongwe will have club Djs since most of the radio Djs are based in the commercial city of Malawi ( Blantyre).
The Master of Ceremonies of the competition Chimwemwe Chikwana, who led the first draw of Blantyre Djs said there will three judges.
Chikwana said the three judges will be looking at mixing, creativity and entertainment factor to find the best Dj.
Each Dj will be given 15 minutes to do his magic before surrendering the stage to his colleague.
“This competition wil also give our Djs a platform to showcase their talent apart ftom winning something. People will also be able to know the best Dj on the land,” he said.
In Blantyre venues for the competition will be Chez-Ntemba and Blue Elephant while in Lilongwe Chez-Ntemba and Zanzi will host the competition.
Chikwana said after the official on October 25 in Blantyre, they will invade the capital city on November 1, 2013 at Zanzi before coming to Blantyre again on November 8, 2013.
On November 15, 2013 the competition will storm Lilongwe again before the finals on December 31 at a venue to be announced later.
Draw
In the first draw which was conducted on Monday, Blantyre City resident should expect a battle between Dj Joy against Slessor as Dj Mbuzi rock horns with Pather Rix.
Sam Kabambe from Star Radio will battle it out with Dj PRO while vastly experienced Dj on the land Kenny Klips will line up against Dude the Son Asher.
