Celebs, media personalities react to Chalamanda, Kwame mayoral loses
Approximately two years in mayoral office, the youthful Blantyre city mayor Noel Chalamanda and former hip hop artist, Lilongwe city deputy mayor Akwame Bandawe simply known as Kwame have lost their positions in the recently held mayoral elections.

The elections which took place in all the three cities on Friday and Monday saw Noel Chalamanda losing to his former deputy Wild Ndipo whilst Kwame lost to Desmond Bikoko in a closely contested race.
Bikoko narrowly beat Akwame Bandawe by 15 to 14 votes as opposed to Ndipo who beat Chalamanda on a 17 to 2 margin.
As usual, social media was awash with reactions from Kwame’s fellow rappers.
“Hard luck my brother Osei Kwame but you and I know the journey has only just begun. You’ve given Malawian hip hop a worthy face. I support you as you continue to do so my brother. I know where you come from, where you are and where you’re going. Let’s change Malawi for the better a day at a time,” rapper Third Eye posted on Facebook.
Reacting to the defeat, Kwame wrote on his Facebook page: “Glory to God… Everything happens for a reason. #stillnoshaken”
In the early 2000s, Kwame’s “Kwame wafika” was one of the first videos to be played on Channel O.
In a related development, the youthful lawyer Noel Chalamanda who has also been described as a socialite, received an overwhelming farewell on social media.
DJ Nathan Tunes posted a picture on Facebook with a caption, “Bring back our Mayor Noel Chalamanda. #myblantyre”
On the other hand, rapper/producer Dizzo had a rather bitter reaction to the news, blaming Malawians for having retrogressive minds.
“After all that Chalamanda has done for Bt’s, he only got two votes…favouring his former deputy to be the new mayor of Blantyre. For me, this just goes to show how much Malawi hates progress…on the real…unless Chalamanda didnt want it….Ndale kutipweteka aMalawi!!!!!” Dizzo posted on Facebook.
However, the former mayor congratulated the new Blantyre city mayor Ndipo, pledging total support and cooperation.
Chalamanda wrote: “Thanks so much Blantyre for the opportunity to serve as your mayor. I now pass the baton to Cllr WILD NDIPO, our new mayor! Congratulations your worship! I pledge my total support and cooperation. I wish you well! I wish you success!
“To all that supported me encouraged me, spoke well of me and wished me well, I pour my profound gratitude to you. This is how democracy works. The people have spoken ! Thank you all”

Noel Chalamanda, so the people in the media claim that you were doing a good job. But the people on the streets are yet to give out their judgements. If this Noel was indeed doing a good job, I tell you the councillors could not have voted him out. Remember good job is not on the media, facebook, twitter, nyasatimes etc. good job is creating a lasting relationship and trust with the people who have the power to put you into office and remove you. Apa zikuwoneselatu kuti a Noel analibe ubale ndi makhansala a nzawo. Makhansala sizitsilu Akanakhala kuti… Read more »

Politics is killing Malawi we can’t fodge a head in this Nation. Very few Malawians love their country but the rest are full of tribalism, I think Malawi should be first, politics second. You don’t change a winning team People like Chalamanda are hard to find the young man has done a lot for a city of Blantyre why not give him a second chance? Malawians don’t politicise development very few people have the walfare of Malawi at heart but most of them they just want kukama yowonda kaya itafa alibe nazo ntchito. Malawians why can’t we get rid of… Read more »

One element that has been overlooked here: the DPP were all over the place giving out money to the Councillors to vote a DPP mayor. Lilongwe Councillors ate the money and voted wisely. So too did Mzuzu Councillors. Apparently the Blantyre Councillors are the most greedy, the greediest, the mostest greediest in the land. So they followed their stomach. I hear they are yet to be paid for the services.
Too bad for Blantyre City which has become my number 1 Malawi City in the past 2 years. I doubt if the standards will be maintained.
Fare yes well Noel. So far so very good. Please do come back. Do keep fit and God bless
MALAWIANS SHOULD WAKE UP AND REFUSE THIS NONSENSE OF ALWAYS GIVING US RAW DEAL. IN NOEL CHALAMANDA, WE HAD A REAL MAYOR WHO HAD WELFARE OF THE CITY AT HEART.
ALL THIS IS THE WORK OF DPP. THEY DONT WANT THE YOUNG MAN. BLANTYRE RESIDENTS, TIYENI TIGWIRANE MANJA COME 2019. AMENE WATIMENYA M’MIMBA PA NKHANI YA NOEL ASAZAIONENSO VOTI YATHU.
ANTHU OIPA AWA, KUTEROKU SAMASANGALALA KUTI BT IMAONEKA BWINO.
Why is the storyline about Chalamanda and not the person who won? It just shows kuti there’s bias reporting here. Nyasatimes, is becoming a mouthpiece for Chalamanda, Bushiri and a few others.
My bro open ur eyes……reality strikes hard…thats what is doing now….chalamanda lost because. Of peoples greed…thats malawian politics
With regards to Blantyre, It’s sad to see that such a progressive young man with a solid head on his shoulders has been given the short end of the stick. Chalamanda has done a lot more for the city of Blantyre in the 2 years he has been in office than government has done in the last decade. Under him Blantyre was reclaiming it’s lost glory. As politics go in this godforsaken country of ours however, people like Chalamanda who genuinely have the interests of the people at heart are seen as threats. Even more so when one cannot be… Read more »
