Central Region officials dump PP to join DPP: Malawi road to 2014

Some top Peoples Party (PP) officials and 22 members from the Central Province have dumped the party and now joined the opposition Democratic Progressive Party (DPP).

Among the top officials include Frazer Chulu, Lloyd Issa and Alex Sakala who were Province Secretary, Regional
Treasure and a member.

In an interview, Issah described PP as the party which has no direction and has nothing to offer for the betterment of the country.

“The party has lost direction, at first we thought that things will change but Malawians are very poor than they were during the DPP leadership, people want change and it is only DPP that can bring that change,” he claimed.

Speaking on Wednesday at DPP Central Region office where the members were officially received, the party’s Secretary General Dr Jean Kalirani said there are a lot of people from the ruling party who are going to join DPP.

The function was presided by the party’s president Peter Arthur Mutharika.

“People from all corners of the country are calling us every day to join the party, this is just the beginning you will see more coming forward soon,” she said.

Mutharika said this is a sign that DPP has got support in all the regions.

“This is the only stable and powerful party in the country which has the welfare of the people at heart,” he said.
