Centre for Social Concern tells govt to buy off maize from market
Centre for Social Concern (CSF) has asked government to quickly buy off maize from the markets to avoid commodity vendors exploit ordinary people.

CSF executive director Father John Cuppins says commodity vendors are now buying off the maize in readiness to exploit ordinary people.
“The government needs to intervene to protect ordinary Malawians,” said Cuppins.
The private traders are currently buying off the maize with prices ranging from K180 per kilogram to K200 per kilogram.
The government set price for buying the life-saving grain is K150 per kilogram.
Minister of Agriculture, Irrigation and Water Development Kondwani Nankhumwa told parliament last week that Admarc was supposed to start buying maize from farmers in June but there had been delays due to shortage of money.
He said the government has just secured a K2.5 billion loan from Ecobank to enable Admarc buy the commodity and the buying process will start soon.
