Chakwera flies out to US on church mission
Malawi Congress Party (MCP) president Lazarus Chakwera has Friday flown out to United States of America to attend to a church meeting, leaving behind a heightened political crisis.
Chakwera has left the country as quasi-religious body, the Public Affairs Committee (PAC) was meeting President Peter Mutharika in an effort to find a lasting solution to the political impasse following the highly disputed May presidential election result.
MCP officials say Chakwera has left for Orlando, Florida to attend to the World Assemblies General Congress.
The annual congress this year takes place from Thursday August 1 to Sunday August 4.
“This event offers a unique opportunity to reach thousands of ministry leaders and lay-men on site and tens of thousands who participate via live streams, web and mobile apps,” says information on the congress website.
Chakwera along with UTM president Saulos Chilima have challenged the presidential poll results in court.
Both Chakwera and Chilima participate in peaceful protests organised to force Malawi Electoral Commission chairperson Jane Ansah step down.

Please Church in Florida, do not accept Chakwera. The man is a murderer as he declared himself a blood shedder. He has caused a lot of suffering to a lot of Malawians including being responsible for the death of two innocent children at Mponela. Ask him why is he returning to God after dumping Him for politics. He has not repented but it is the crushing defeat that he was decorated with at the recently held in Malawi.
