Chakwera is political lightweight, not a threat to DPP – Wa Jeffrey

Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) Secretary General, Grelzedar Jeffery, has blemished Malawi Congress Party (MCP) leader Dr. Lazarus Chakwera saying his predecessor John Tembo was a much better threat to DPP than him.

Wa Jeffrey: DPP is not scared with Chakwera

Speaking during a public rally in Mulanje recently, Jeffery said DPP is not afraid of Chakwera and other party leaders as they cannot match Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika’s aptitude.

“We came into power when the country had nothing. It was the leadership of his Excellency Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika that led us here. If you can remember, when he was voted into power, Malawi was facing a lot of challenges including floods, food shortage, and cash gate that led donors to run away. It was only under the headship of Peter Mutharika that we managed to overcome the problems and not a single person died of hunger,” said Jeffery.

She said most of the leaders need to remain where they belong and not venture into politics as they are just adding problems to the country.

“At least Tembo was a man to fear. Whenever we contested against him as a party, we would be cautious but that is not the case with Chakwera; him we do not fear, he needs to stick to preaching. MCP has already lost and 2019 will just be their judgment,” said the DPP Secretary General.

Jeffrey concluded by saying, since time immemorial, there has never been a president better than Peter Mutharika, arguing that all the other presidents relied on donor aid but Mutharika has governed the country for three years without any direct budget support from international donors.

  9. Simple arithmetic!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Chakwera came number 2 with the votes mainly from the centre. Chakwera to win the elections he needs a good number of votes from south and north. Now, tell me where Chakwera will find the additional votes to win the presidency? Which district in the south is ready to vote Chakwera as their president? Which district in the north is showing readiness to vote for the party which started regionalism by sending all Tumbuka teachers to the north? Which constituency in the north will vote for a party which killed their beloved sons in the name of Dunduzu Chisiza, Yatuta Chisiza, Mkwapatira Mhango, Orton Chirwa? Tell me guys, what charisma has Chakwera that he can attract support from the south and north? What we are experiencing from the ground is that the MCP is losing support to DPP because it is the centre in MCP areas where we are hearing of daily defections. The DPP is just adding the already big number of supporters and unfortunately the numbers are from MCP. Let us face the truth, how many times do you hear from Zodiak or Times TV that such a number of people have joined MCP? Jeffrey is doing a commendable job for DPP and everyone can see this. My fear is that MCP members in Nkhotakota will all defect to DPP because of this lady. It is very embarrassing to Chakwera that APM who is from the far south should get more votes than him in 2014 yet he says he commands the centre. Is not Ntcheu in the central region? Why is Chakwera and his MCP not commanding it? APM is not giving a chance to Chakwera to penetrate the south yet DPP has and is still making inroads in the centre. Why then do you doubt Chakwera’s loss in 2019? Jeffrey is saying the truth on the ground. Mutsegula naye m’mimba mayiyu.

  14. Lightweight fights with fellow lightweight. Likewise heavyweight fights with fellow heavyweight.
    This means if Chakwera is lightweight so too is APM.
    So it’s DPPs stand that they eliminated floods? My foot! Kkkkkk

  16. To way I see Chakwera is more heavyweights than Tembo and Peter. It heavily depend on how internal infighting of MCP that may disturb him or if they don’t manage to stop regionalizing the MCP. That is a real and real threat of DPP unless they have another way to save themselves
