Chanco MCP wing elects new president ‘Yongo wa Yongo’: Mwanyongo worries about hopeless youth

Malawi Congress Party (MCP) Members at the University of Malawi’s Chancellor College have elected a communication and cultural studies third year student, Emmanuel Mwanyongo as Chanco MCP wing president in a vote held on Friday.

Mwanyongo elected president of MCP wing at Chanco

Popularly known as Yongo Wa Yongo, Mwanyongo beat Kennedy Khwapalako Ganthu in a surprise results.

Speaking after announced the winner Mwanyongo said he was sad to be elected at the time when the youth in the country are hopeless and that unemployment levels are too high.

“My win came at a very sad time and I am rather angry and not happy. Angry because I’m coming at the time when the youth are hopeless, unemployment levels are too high, tuition fees also too high.

“A lot of students at our college haven’t registered yet for this semester because they can’t even access loans. So if you ask me about how I feel, I’m very angry but not all hope is lost, our only hope is in Dr. Lazarus Chakwera and in 2019 we won’t make another mistake”, he said

Mwanyongo said with him on the driving seat at Chanco MCP wing, people should expect a shift in how young people engage in politics saying its high time youth have been used as pawns but from 2018 going forward young people will be part of the decision making process.

“We are starting a movement for all the colleges in Malawi, we will stop at nothing until we make Chakwera president”, he said.

Commenting on some misunderstandings that have recently traumatized the party, Mwanyongo confidently said those are just the storms in the sea that will soon be calm.

Mwana wosapola pa mchombo uyu. What can you say about politics? For the dream that you see Chakwera as president of this country you have already shown that you are politically blind.

APM and Chakwera can not take this country anywhere. They are both clueless and sleep on the job. APM has failed miserably. I fear Chakwera might even be worse given chance. Its high time other leaders started seeing this as their chance to raise and sell their political ideologies to us. I feel sorry to see the youths of these days towing the political lines of these failed politicians. Malawians lets learn to read history- Do you know how old lake Aleke Banda was when he started politics? And Chakuwamba, Gwede, Muwalo etc…they were in their 20s
