Chaponda back from Germany through Chileka

Beleaguered Agriculture, Irrigation and Water Development Minister George Chaponda has arrived back from his controversial Germany trip.

Airport officials at Chileka international in Blantyre say he jetted down on Wednesday mid day . His ticket showed he was supposed to land at Kamuzu International Airport in Lilongwe.

He was then whisked away to a waiting official vehicle.

Chaponda comes barely a day after civil society organisations went to the High Court in Mzuzu to file for contempt of court proceedings following the minister’s decision to disregard a court order and go to Germany on official duties.

The court has said a judge will be available for the case after January 31.

Chaponda risks arrest and property seizure if found in court contempt.

  7. It is you reporters who told us that Chaponda will jet down at KIA. We did not have a look at his ticket so it was easy for us to be cheated. May be you knew that he was to come through Chileka but you mentioned KIA deliberately so that you find something to mudsling when he flies down through Chileka. The truth is that Chaponda was fearing no one and he can not do so because there is nothing to fear of. Ask Kamlepo and his team if they have a straight evidence directed to Chaponda so far in their emotional interviews. Get a lesson from what the German Ambassador has responded to your silly request. If you think Chaponda was fearing you, what do you think you would do if Chaponda jetted down in LL? Would you arrest him? Would you stone his car? Would you jeer at him? What then would make the man change the place of jetting? Our reporters are good at cooking up stories but at the end they look fools. May be the opposition thinks finishing Chaponda is the same as finishing DPP. That’s the thinking of shallow minded people like Kamlepo. Tiyeni nazoni.

  14. I have liked the way Germany Embassy has done. Why do we want foreigners, Germany Embassy to instill discipline yet we have courts in Malawi.

    Chaponda is a citizen of Malawi and has a right to return home. If the judiciary is WEAK azungu cannot make it strong!! Retarded CSOS, go to court
