Chaziya voted back as chairperson of Lilongwe District Council
Samson Chaziya, councillor for Mazengera Ward in Lilongwe Mpenu constituency who is also President for Malawi Local Government Association (MALGA) has been voted as Chairperson for Lilongwe District Council.
Chaziya who had was pushed out of office after serving one term in August 2015 after losing to Peter Chikuse, councillor for Mteza Ward in Lilongwe City North Constituency has returned to power after securing a majority vote of 26 beating three other councillors.
He beat Kesias Mussa Mataya Councillor for Njewa Ward who got 11 votes, Luciano Bottoman councillor for Bunda Ward who got eight votes and Councillor John Kawinga of Sanjiko Ward who got two votes.
Chaziya is being deputised by Councillor Christopher Masasa of Demera Ward who got 23 votes after beating Councillor Neverless Kamchacha of Chilobwe Ward who got 19 votes and Luciano Botoman councillor for Bunda Ward who got four votes.
He said he plans to establish a foundation which will result in Lilongwe financing its own projects.
“I want to establish a foundation which will see Lilongwe district having enough revenue base to finance its own projects. This will require discipline on the part of councillors, council employees and Members of Parliament. If successful, Lilongwe district council will become a role model for other councils in Malawi,” said Chaziya.
