The cultural pilgrimage of the Chewa’s from Malawi, Zambia and Mozambique, the annual Kulamba Ceremony, was held on Saturday, at Mkaika, Katete District in Zambia and it was colourful event.
Every last Saturday in the month of August, the Chewa’s from the three countries throng their headquarters at Mkaika to unify with their ancestors to commemorate their rich cultural heritage of paying homage to Paramount Chief Kalonga Gawa Undi.
In his address, His Majesty Kalonga Gawa Undi, urged leaders from the three government to avoid meddling into the chieftainship wrangles but rather allow the chiefs themselves to resolve them amicably.
While commending governments effort for various initiatives which aims at transforming people’s lives in the three countries, Gawa Undi said he was not happy that political leaders have failed to honour the court ruling in some instances.
“This is very bad and I am not happy with this,” Said Kalonga who spoke through former Parliamentarian, David Phiri.
Gawa Undi urged chiefs in the three countries to encourage their subjects to send their children both boys and girls to school saying the future of any nation is held in the hands of educated citizens.
Zambian Vice President, Inonge Wina, said her government will look critically into the Kalonga complaint and address them as soon as possible.
Wina said Zambian government will continue including chiefs in running its affairs.
“That is why soon after taking over government, we created special ministry of Chiefs so that chiefs are close with government.”
