Chihana’s spokesman Saulos Thindwa resigns, still in Aford

Alliance for Democracy (AFORD) president Enock Chihana’s spokesman, Saulos Thindwa has resigned but he remains a party operative, Nyasa Times understands.

Thindwa, who is the former Malawi Broadcasting Cooperation sports reporter, was handpicked by Chihana to work as his advisor on media, spokesperson and personal assistant.

However, according to the letter dated 12 November, 2017 and written by Thindwa to Chihana, his resignation is in the best interest of Aford.

” I want to inform you that based on the ethics of my profession in line with the pledge that I made when I just joined the party’s revamping process in January this year, I decided to resign my job as your advisor on media, spokesperson and personal assistant, ” reads the letter seen by Nyasa Times.

The letter says the resignation is of immediate effect.

“This is to allow me perform my media coverage in a fair and balanced manner as we approach the Party’s convention in December this year.  If I am still attached to your office, my coverage duty may be compromised,” added the letter.

Thindwa said his resignation will enable him to cover every aspiring AFORD member on any position that will be up for grabs during the leadership contest at the convention in a fair and objective manner and that includes Chihana.

The party is expected to hold its convention on 16 December this year.
