Chilembwe memorial preparations disrupts education in Chiradzulu: Pupils sent back as female teachers go for rehearsals
Pupils in Chiradzuru were forced to go for an early John Chilembwe holiday on Fridays 13th January 2017 as teachers particularly women reportedly went for dancing rehearsals in anticipation of President Peter Mutharika’s visit to Chiradzuru this coming Sunday.

Mutharika is expected to attend Reverend John Chilembwe’s annual Memorial Prayers at Providence Industrial Mission (PIM) on Sunday 15th January 2017.
According to a MIJ FM report aired on Friday mid-day bulletin, Chiradzuru Primary Education Advisor (PEA) Getrude Masamba ordered that all primary female teachers around St. Michaels Zone attend the rehearsals.
The teachers were threatened that they will be transfered to very remote area if they do not comply with the directive.
But the PEA expressed surprise and ignorance on the matter hence refusing to comment anything on the matter when contacted by a MIJ Radio.
She ended up wondering and questioning the reporter how he got the PEA’s phone number.
One of the male teachers in the zone and a primary school pupil confirmed with the radio that indeed the pupils were sent back home.
It has become a growing tendecy of the rulling party forcing female teachers to abandon pupils and rehearse in readiness for a president’s visit in various places.
Several Non-Governmental Organizations (NGO’s) and Human Rights activists have been blaming the government and advised the government to stop the tendecy but the government still gives a deaf ear.
The rights activists say it is a violation of right to education for the children.

DPP is an embodiment and a figment of the past dark days of Malawi’s history and needs to be replaced by a party that fits well with democratic dispensation. In addition, this Chilembwe Day must be abrogated/annulled. History will tell you that Chilembwe was killed when he wanted to grab land from the colonialists by force to give it back to his clansmen. He was killed when he hoisted and totted a gun at a European after running awhile for his… Read more »
