Chilima prays at Zomba Anglican church, urges Malawians to stop glorifying looters

State vice President Saulos Chilima has urged Malawians to stop the tendency of glorifying leaders, saying this makes them feel entitled instead of serving.

Chilima prayed at Zomba Anglican Church on Sunday in the backdrop of the ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) propaganda machinery which say he uses the Catholic church to advance his political ambitions.

He said leaders should be servants of people.

Chilima also called on churches to devise means that would make them self reliant financially as opposed to always waiting for donations.

He was speaking at St Georges Parish of the Anglican church in Zomba on Sunday where he was invited to pray.

Chilima said it was the responsibility of the faithful to give to the church as well as devise various income generating activities for their churches.

“Gone are the days when churches got everything from donors but now Christians are the life line of the churches so let us support our churches in any way that we can. Real worth is what we will take to the grave,” said Chilima.

The Vice President also called for coexistence among Malawians and appealed for peace to continue prevailing in Malawi.

Later Chilima also participated in a fundraising golf tournament for the church at Zomba Golf Club.

Whilst you have my vote bwana Chilima, I urge and plead with you to truly craft your message in such a way that it resonates with the ordinary man in rural areas. This is no time for preaching about true leadership especially with elections hardly 10 months away. Ordinary people want to see you and hear your message from right where they belong. Knock on their doors from one hat to the other, from village to village, from ward to ward and district to district. Eat with them, laugh with them and sympathise with them. Don’t use podiums to address… Read more »

I totally agree that it is about time that Chilima and his team should move from one area to the other to preach what he has for the people of Malawi or else he is heading for a disaster.

He is going to church because he is a God fearing man unlike the others, he practices what he preaches, I thought Malawi was a Christian Nation? So what’s wrong with SKC going to church and speak up? Read the bible and see how politics were done and come back here and open your gab with sense! Apikene..

The VP is free to use any means at his disposal. Name the law and section that he has contravened by preaching at church. Dont take us back to the MABAVA and MADALA TEAM ZA DPP who are just abusing our money. Now alowera kwa MAPETO who is not paying taxes and paying into a separate account of DPP to help them buy votes and all officials.

Mr Panganani, the inability to reject wrong practices is what is making Malawi always get poor leadership. We clap hands when someone is doing wrong until the day his true colours come out and then we start to cry. The church has its own role and politics should not be preached on the pulpit. Our churches are politicised. It is not good for democracy.

Are you sure about this? Without churches being involved in Malawi politics where would our country be? Who started pastoral letters? Wasn’t that in church? Just because this brilliant young man is going back to where it started in 1993 you to have the audacity to be pointing fingers on him whilst your other four fingers are pointing at you, this is why we can’t move forward as a nation with your kind of mind set uphawi.com mindset.

Chilima, you have my vote. We are tired of these old leaders who have trouble controlling their own bladders, let alone a party. Cadets looting left and right whilst they watch. Chakwera and Mia are a waste of time, and MCP will never rule Malawi again due to their history of atrocities and genocide. Same as the rebranded Nazi parties could never win in Germany.

IWE BIG MAN YOU MUST BE VERY STUPID! WAS CHAKWERA AND MIA IN MCP WHEN THE SO-CALLED ATTROCITIES WERE BEING COMMITTED? IS IT THE NAME THAT COMMITS ATTROCITIES? MCP NO LONGER HAVE PEOPLE WHOSE PAST IS TAINETD WITH ATROCITIES. IN FACT WE CHASED THEM ALL. DAUSI AND NTABA ARE IN DPP. PROBABLY THAT IS THE REASON WHY DPP YOUTH MORALE ARE TERROLISZING PEOPLE.

Chilima cannot win next year. His candidature will just help divide the opposition and hand presidency to Mutharika on a silver platter. Chilima will therefore be helping to retain DPP in power, which will be his nightmare. DPP has stolen enough money to buy the entire MEC, DCs, poor teachers who work on elections, and many gullible voters. A divided opposition cannot stop DPP, which is unlike PP that lost power due to lack of a clear strong base. Chilima must therefore think long and hard- without the distractions of the hand crappers- and sincerely consider whether or not his… Read more »

He surely has. If you look at how he is approaching these issues indeed it shows that he is thinking hard. I believe that God puts leaders who He wants. Let’s see what happens next year. All in all, God’s Will will prevail
