Chilima tells MBC journos, you have life after DPP

State vice president Saulos Chilima has told journalists at the state controlled Malawi Broadcasting Corporation  (MBC) that they have life to live after the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) is out of power.

Answering a question at a new  conference, Chilima said the MBC journalists need to be professional and ethical instead of insulting the opposition in their news coverage.

“It is very unfortunate that people don’t learn. Some of the [journalists] who are engaged in the unprofessional job are young, younger than myself. The way they speak, it is as if they will retire with their masters,” said the UTM president.

He said MBC staff need to change their mindset, saying reforms alone cannot change anything.

“The director general  [Aubrey Sumbuleta] who is there is not the first one to be there. Don’t live for today. Learn from the past. Reforms work only if there is mindset of the workers,” said Chilima.

He said when he was assigned to be in charge of government reforms, he advised on the reforms to be adopted by MBC.

  1. MBC, ESCOM, Water Board, Embassies! Koma ndiye kukhala ntchito mpwechepweche agalu amenewa akachoka m’boma. Oh! Don’t forget restructuring of the police force. Asiye kitizunza mu msewu! Paulendo! Paulendo!

  2. “They behave as if they will retire with their masters!” Very myopic and unprofessional dudes like Maseya and Business…wonder what they will do once DPP gets out of power?

  3. When the new government comes in, my humble plea is to make sure MBC is cleaned, i mean deeply cleaned, have new faces, the current stupid DPP boot licker’s should be shown the highway, and please start with the DG – Aubrey Sagawa Sumbuleta, and end with the likes of the Chisanu’s, Philip Bizinesi,, Maseya…… the list is endless. Mxiiiew

  4. Arafat Zeze should be the last person to say what he is quoted here to have said. Why does he himself insult? Is it easier for Arafat Hamdani to condemn insult by others? When you call others apumbwa you think it is as good as distributing candy grow up you ass!

  5. kkkk kodi chilima matama bwanji ?who told you that you are going to win this fresh election ?achimwene mudzachita manyazi dekhani till you get there mwana wa kwathu . phuma ayi mukachita masewera zikuphonyani akulu .

  6. The target should be APM and Botomam. The small-scale journalists fear for their jobs should they refuse to tow the line

  7. I listened to Chilima’s presser yesterday and noticed the man is becoming mature politically. The grueling events of the last 9 months may have played a part. I once said and will repeat Chilima has all the chances of rising to the top job only if he stops his Malema-like militant approach when attacking govt and also stop playing the townboy card. Malawians are conservative and poor people and they are increasingly becoming frustrated and angly towards rich town based politicians. Tell poor people what they want and not about toilet tissues, juices, bullet trains, universities, etc.
On different note I want to urge political parties talk unifying language on the podium. Last Tues at MCP rally I heard one of the senior official saying “…Ife tiyenda dziko lonse kupanga campaign kaya enzathuwo apanga bwanji campaign…”
It doesn’t need a rocket scientists to decipher what this guy was insinuating and its simple: DPP will not be welcomed in Central and Northern regions. Very bad.
MCP should not take advantage of the current Central and Northern region’s HRDC influenced Nsundwe-like antiDPP hatred, it may backfire. There is no powerful tribe in Malawi we are all same humans.

  8. If they don’t want to work with you or delegate there is so much work to do on your own to educate these hyponise young men to say ‘ but if not ‘ (MLK)

  9. True leader takes things head on, Frankly speaking Chilima is indeed a leader which Malawi is missing .

He can take this corrupt regime head on no matter the circumstances he might be in .
My vote is still there for u .

MEC indeed systematically covered the winning formula of UTM with Tippex. UTM might have won in the South as well but MEC in collusion with DPP changed everything in favour of DPP

  10. Hypocrisy Mr. VP!! Almost all parastatals were polluted with unprofessionalism by the DPP government which you were an integral part of and you rigged together to get into office. You are only singling out MBC because you fell out and it is not supporting you! Why were you not speaking out all along? Sumbuleta wapitako lero? Zopusitsa anthu okutsatilani okufa mituwo! Tikuonani mukabwelera ku DPP posachedwapa
