Chilumpha attacks DPP MPs for Malawi economic woes

Minister of Energy and Mining, Dr Cassim Chilumpha Thursday accused former Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) ministers in Parliament for contributing to the suffering Malawians are currently going through.

Chilumpha, Member of Parliament for Nkhotakota Central east , stood on a point of order when DPP leader in the House, Dr George Chaponda asked why some Cabinet Ministers were not available in the chamber to answer questions said it was is disheartening to see innocent Malawians living in misery just because of irresponsible ministers who always fought for what was good for them.

The minister said DPP should bear the blame for all the economic woes the country is facing.

Chilumpha: DPP MPs to blame for the worst economic crisis Malawi went through

“It is unfortunate to note that most Malawians are in pain today because some ill-minded people did not consider the welfare of the citizenry,” said Chilumpha.

“Some of these former ministers who seem to be furious with the current government which has made deliberate efforts in eradicating some of the problems Malawians are facing were there when the country was being misled.

“Therefore in due respect, let the failed ministers give us time to restore the country from the social and economic challenges,” Chilumpha said.

Chilumpha’s sentiments attracted praises in the house especially from the government side that culminated into chanting chaya..chaya [meaning fight..fight].

Despite the chanting, Chaponda insisted questioning the second deputy speaker, Julian Mphande to remind ministers to take parliament deliberations seriously and provide the legislatives with convincing answers.

Said Chaponda, “As a matter of protocol, ministers are supposed to come to the house in time and attend to the questions asked by members of parliament who represent people in need of development.”

Mphande then assured the house that she would convey the message to ministers.
