Chilungamo party president, Alhaji Jumbe, claims Chakwera has failed to honor the alliance agreement
President of Chilungamo Party, Comrade Alhaji Imraan Jumbe, says President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera and the Malawi Congress Party (MCP) have failed to honor the Alliance agreement that brought them to power in the June, 2020 court sanctioned presidential elections.
Comrade Jumbe says the recent announcement by President Chakwera at a political rally in Lilongwe stating to contest in the 2025 elections instead of giving Dr. Saulosi Chilima the opportunity, is a clear sign that MCP and Chakwera cannot be trusted.
He has observed that if they fail to honor the Agreement and keep the promises they made with the very people who brought them to power, what can citizens expect from them? The betrayal is an insult to all Malawians, their votes are being abused.
Writing in a statement, Comrade Jumbe has reminded MCP and Chakwera that Malawians voted for them based on trust and many were convinced by Chilima’s vision and leadership which greatly contributed to their victory.
Jumbe says Malawians cannot allow themselves to be taken for granted, the Government of Tonse Alliance and all agreements that built Tonse Alliance must be honored saying as citizens, they have every right to seek justice and interpretation in the corridors of the country’s courts.
He says the issue is highlighting a significant loophole in the country’s legal system saying Malawians cannot allow politicians to act with impunity taking advantage of the trust and goodwill of the Malawian people.
“It is time to stand up and defend our country for the better interests of all, court battles must begin to bar Chakwera from contesting in 2025,” says Comrade Jumbe.
He says this is the time to ensure that justice is served and that the agreements that formed the foundation of the Tonse Alliance are upheld observing that this is just about political alliances, it is about the integrity of the country’s democratic processes and the trust they place in their leaders.
Jumbe has finally called on Malawians to prepare to defend their country and their rights, it is time for the principlesof fairness and justice, the bedrock of the society saying President Chakwera must be held accountable, and the will of the people must be respected.
