Civo fires coach ‘Sir’ Alex Masanjala

Civo Service United FC has fired head coach ‘Sir’ Alex Masanjala, Nyasa Times can reveal.

This follows the team’s recent poor performance both in the league and cup competitions.

Masanjala confirmed to Nyasa Times in a telephone interview he has been sacked.

“Yes I have just received a letter from the executive when I reported for training today that my services are untenable,” said Masanjala.

Masanjala: Fired

Reasons

According to Masanjala, the contents of the letter indicate that the team has failed to improve in its performance in the recent games.

“Among the reasons they are saying the team has been failing to improve,” he said.

Nyasa Times has also established that the club management has also given the boot goalkeeper trainer Phillip Nyasulu.

The team’s assistant coach Dave Chirwa is also not reporting for duties full time after securing a job with one of the local commercial banks but was seen on the bench on Sunday.

Legacy

Masanjala hinted that he is leaving the club a very happy man, saying he has left a good legacy after guiding the team to win the Presidential cup years back.

The team also nearly came close to win the local top flight TNM Super League on two occasions under his leadership.

“I have managed to change the team and I have helped it to win the Presidential Cup. During my four years stay with the club we managed to reach Standard Bank cup finals and we also came close to win league championship,” narrated Masanjala.

“When I came to this club, it was in bad shape and used to finish the league maybe on position eleven which is not the case now. I am leaving happy man,” he added.

Future

When asked what will be his next move, Masanjala said he needs a sabbatical.

“I need to sit down and rest a bit before I take the next step,” he said.

Civo team manager Austin Nyondo refused to comment and expressed ignorance on the matter when contacted by Nyasa Times.

The civil servants were booted out of the ongoing K20 million Carlsberg Cup now in quarter-final stage last Sunday by Epac FC 3-2 after leading 2-0 early in the game.
