Coach Chimodzi welcomes Malawi ‘fair’ Afcon draw with caution
Malawi national football teach head coach Young Chimodzi has described as fair group in the qualifiers of the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations that pitches the Flames against Guinea’s Sylli Nationale, Zimbabwe’s Warriors and Swaziland’s Sihlangu .
Chimodzi said the Group L “is not bad” describing Afcon draw which was made in Cairo, Egypt Wednesday as “fair.”
“We got a fair competitive group. But am not saying it’s going to be easy because football in Africa has vastly improved. No team is a minnow anymore, but looking at the group on paper, I want to say it’s a fair one,” said Chimodzi.
“It is now up to us to do the job,” he added.
However, Chimodzi said Malawi success will depend on several factors such “as preparations and approach.”
Flames captain Joseph Kamwendo also said “it is a fair draw.”
According to the fixture, the Flames will host Zimbabwe in their first game during the weekend of 12,13 and 14 June this year before travelling to Swaziland during the weekend of 4,5 and 6 September this year. Then they will travel to Guinea for their last first-round during the weekend of 23,24 and 25 March 2016.
Their first second-round match will be against Guinea during the weekend of 27, 28 and 29 March 2016 at home before travelling to Zimbabwe during the weekend of 3, 4 and 5 June and the last one will be against Swaziland on 2, 3 and 4 September.
