Coach Mpulula nearly exchanged blows with Epac official

Suspended Epac FC coach Leo Mpulula on Tuesday nearly changed blows with the club’s executive committee memberKhembo Mumba following misunderstanding on contractual agreements.

The club suspended Mpulula on Monday following a dismal start to the season. Epac are second from the bottom of the 15-TNM Super League with five points from six games.

They have won one, drawn twice and lost three games.

He signed a one-year contract with the Liloongwe based club, which included a K90,000 monthly salary.

Drama ensued when Mpulula confronted the club’s secretary general Obed Kasunda-Banda after he produced a suspension letter.

Mpulula told the officials to terminate his contract and settle his benefits than just suspending him indefinitely.

According to him, the suspension was aimed to frustrate him.

“Just terminate my contract and give my benefits as this is unfair to me. I know this is just one way of frustrating me,” said Mpulula while charging towards Mumba.

They were restrained by Kasunda-Banda, who also took trouble to cool down visibly angry Mpulula.

Kasunda Banda said Mpulula will be getting his full salary until there is a review of his performance.

According Kasunda-Banda, Mpulula, who has since been replaced by his assistant Abass Makawa, became emotional when failed to come to terms with the club’s decision.

“The patron and the whole executive felt the performance of the team was not improving and that there was need to suspend the coach pending a review.

“I told Mr. Mpulula the news on the phone and he asked about my whereabouts. I told him I was in Biwi and he followed me there.  I then invited him into my car and communicated the news.

“Its unfortunate he did not take it well and became emotional,” sadi Kasunda-Banda.

  16. What type of administration is that? Communicating coach’s suspension on the phone and later in a car!! Mr Kasunda-Banda,are you serious? While Leo is known to be aggressive,the way he was communicated to leaves a lot to be desired.. How long would it take to write an official letter informing him about the suspension. Terminate his contract and give him his benefits,aaaaah!!
