Speaking to reporters  at Sobo’s head offices in Makata, Blantyre on Monday, Senior brands Manager of non alcoholic drinks Tithe Mbilizi the promotion will target young teens ranging from 19 to 25 years old.

“We will focus on universities because we are targeting a generation of people who have come from the holiday season and need to be refreshed.” explained Mbilizi.

She went on to say that the campaign will target six different universities in the southern region namely Chancellor College, Blantyre International University (BIU), Polytechnic, Malawi College of Accountancy , Catholic University (CU) and College of Medicine.

“We have deliberately selected these universities so that they can lead in this campaign as brand ambassadors and we want to see how well universities can work together because people are used to having social weekends at their respective universities.” She said.

Mbilizi said the campaign among other things aims at highlighting responsible ways for young people to enjoy themselves adding:”we want this campaign to be used as a platform to create more memorable moments and occasions for its consumers.”

In this campaign two students from each region will stand a chance to win a year’s supply of Coca-cola.

On the day different activities will take place including video game playing, musical performances by Bucci and Piksy, 5 aside soccer, 3 aside basketball and drinking relay among others.

The launch is set to start at 10 am and go on to 6pm.

The campaign will storm Lilongwe on 28th March and Mzuzu on 25th April.

The name of the promotion “Kuphaka-Life” seems childish and nonsensical in all angles. Madam Mbilizi and team, please rethink the name considering that Cocacola, as a drink, appeals across all ages.
