The road, which stretches  from the Lilongwe Old Airport through Kasiya to Santhe and connects to Kasungu, is expected to improve lives of communities in areas it is passing.

Speaking during sensitisation meetings organised over the weekend by the contractor, Mota-Engil community leaders observed that a good road is a catalyst for development.

“We are happy to have this road project. People from this area will no longer have problems in transporting their produce to markets in Lilongwe and Kasungu,” said Traditional Authority (T/A) Khongoni.

The chief also advised her subjects to refrain from derailing progress of the project and appealed to women and girls to desist from engaging in sexual activities with men who have camped in the area for the construction works.

In an interview, Mota-Engil consultant Davie Chilonga said the meetings were organised to ensure cooperation of communities in the implementation of the project.

“These meetings were organised for communities to understand their role in the project as well as the role of the contractor and government. It was also vital for communities to appreciate the benefits of the road,” he said.

The road covers 98 kilometres. So far, 28 kilometres have been completed.

How long a journey may be, it starts with one step. Well done Government, I think this project will be completed on time unlike other road projects in the country.
