Construction of Mombera University to begin, says VP Chihana

Second Vice-President Enock Chihana has revealed a massive K14 BILLION cash injection to finally kick-start the long-promised Mombera University in Mzimba – and it’s just the start.

The VP dropped the bombshell at the foot of Hora Mountain on Saturday, during huge celebrations for this year’s Umthetho Cultural Festival – and he’s got his sights set even higher.

Government is now chasing a whopping K300 BILLION more from private investors through Public-Private Partnerships to get the uni fully built and running.

“The dream to have Mombera University will be actualised,” Chihana told the cheering crowd. “All preparatory works are complete. What is remaining is for PPDA to work on some contracts before construction companies go on site to commence works.”

And it’s not just books and lecture halls on the cards – students will get to study veterinary medicine and animal husbandry, plus there’s a whole college of mining thrown in too.

Chihana wasn’t done there, promising to finally finish the long-stalled Eswazini Road and other delayed projects that have left locals fuming for years.

The VP also threw his weight behind turning the Hora Heritage Site into a major tourist magnet, insisting it could transform tourism not just in Mzimba – but across the whole of Malawi.

Paramount Chief M’mbelwa V jumped on the bandwagon too, making a direct appeal to investors to team up with the Mzimba Heritage Association (Mziha) and help build Hora into one of the country’s TOP tourist spots.

The chief revealed Hora recently scored a huge win after being declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO – and Mziha now wants to cash in, turning it into a genuine world-class destination.

Big dreams, bigger numbers – and for once, officials reckon this one might actually happen.
