Construction of stadium in Ntcheu commences mid August

Construction of the much awaited Ntcheu Sports Stadium is expected to commence on 15th August 2017 This follows a tripartite contract agreement signing in ceremony which took place on Thursday 13th July 2017 in Ntcheu.

The ceremony involved officials from Ntcheu District Council, Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development and Plem Contruction Company who won the bid to build the stadium.

Speaking after the signing ceremony, Principal Secretary in the Ministry of Local Government Kinswell Dakamau hailed Ntcheu District Council for speedy processing of all the requirements for the work to get underway.

Dakamau said the 20,000 seater stadium will greatly assist Ntcheu District Council generate more revenue that will help in financing several developmental projects in the district.

“The council went through a laborious exercise which among other things included planning and procurement of designers and a contractor, this is not an easy job,” said Dakamau.

The PS said the construction of the stadium is a milestone achievement in the development of the district and the country as a whole.

“I am reliably informed that this stadium which will cost K4.6 billion will have a capacity of 20,000 seats, meaning that, it will be bigger than Balaka and Dedza stadiums,” said Dakamau.

He therefore pleaded with contractors to do a good job and stick to what is in the agreement that was signed.
Managing Director for Plem Construction Company, Fleming Kapunda, assured the company’s commitment by abiding to the contract agreement.

“It is a prestige for Plem Construction Company to have been awarded this contract and we will do good work to portray the company’s good image whilst ensuring timeliness and quality,” said Kapunda.

The budget for the magnificent stadium has been pegged at K4.2 Billion.

Recently, Minister of Local Government and Rural Development Kondwani Nankhumwa revealed that government is planning to construct more stadia in almost all the districts in the country.

Nankhumwa said this at the official commissioning of the K320 Million Mulanje park Stadium.

According to Nankhumwa, construction of district stadia’s will increase source of revenue for local councils.
