Cop Naphiyo knows Njauju killers: Arrested for bragging he knows assailants

Police criminal investigations department officer Christopher Naphiyo was arrested by fellow law enforcers after he was overheard boasting at a drinking joint in Lilongwe that he knows assailants of former Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) corporate affairs director Issa Njauju.

Sources in the police say some people, whom he was drinking with at Falls in the capital city reported him to police after he boasted he knew the killers of Njauju.

His is yet to be charged after he was arrested on Friday.

Police headquarters spokesperson Nicholas Gondwa refused to give detailed account on the arrest of Naphiyo who was based at police headquarters.

His pals describe Naphiyo as a reticent cop who has very few friends whom he interacts with.

Naphiyo is the second person to be arrested in connection with the death of Njauju after the arrest of another man who has since been charged with murder after he was found with a mobile phone belonging to the graft busting body’s third in command.

ACB director Lucas Kondowe could also not give information on the arrest of Naphiyo only saying his organisation is closely working with the police to ring to book the murderers of Njauju.

Civil society organisations are putting pressure on government to do more in order to arrest the killers of Njauju who was brutally murdered in July and his half buried body was found near presidential villas in Lilongwe.

  4. This is an issue more to do with ethics than crime. What some people are failing to understand is that pa mowa pamakambidwa nkhani zambiri. It’s not that Naphiyo just came from no where and bragged about knowing the killers. Anangokamba maganizo ake ndimmene akudziwira pa nkhani ya Njaunju yomwe imakambidwa. Now as a man in uniform ethically he was supposed to remain silent regardless of what he knows on the matter. But you know pa mowa mmene zimakhalira. Sometimes you lose your senses and talk too much.

The main issue is that he linked the murder to DPP. That’s why the arrest. Otherwise he was only supposed to be questioned as a matter of ethics or clues rather than being arrested. He is not a suspect. As I said before, the police have no clue as to who the real killers are. If at all they know, their hands are tied by some forces within. I tell you if he did not link the talk to DPP he would not have been arrested.

Why is it that JB openly mentioned that she knows the shooters of Mphwiyo but she is still a free thief on the run? The whole nation heard it from her mouth. But she is free up now and the attempted murder case is still stalling. Now someone here is arrested for saying he thinks he knows the killers. Come on!

  7. Koma ku Malawi, komvetsa chisoni ndithu. Dziko losowa chilungamo ili. Ndalama zambirimbiri ziwonongeka pankhani iyi pamene zoona zake akuzidziwa ndithu. Mulungu akuwonatu!

  8. Kumwembe anamvera za Judge Mtambo kuti wapita ku BT’s without security pa Mugasa mpaka kumangidwanso ,but JB said kuti she knows Mphwiyo’s shooters koma akanali mfulu.

  9. Why did you not arrest JB when she said she knows those who shot Mphwiyo while she was sober? This guy was drunk and can easily say her mind was corrupted by alcohol.

  10. ofcourse Naphiyo knows the killers. They are from Intelligence department. The same people torched MEC warehouse in LL. The same guys broke into the residency of a German official investigating DPP cashgate. These are state sponsored crimes.

The arrest of Naphiyo is infact a move to gag him from talking

  11. PADZIKO LAPANSI PALIBE CHINSINSI PANO MWAONA AYAMBA A POLICE KUWULULA WOKHA POPANGA OWAFUNSA THAT MEANS THE POLICE ARE INVOLVE VERY BAD EH FIGHTING FOR GOVERNMENT MONEY ESHII!

  12. Oh!oh! So an innocent and true story has been twisted again? Why are we Malawians like this? Now the police officers want to protect their fellow officer and they bring us a better sounding version of the story cholinga chawo is kuti this guy should be given bail. This is another corruption. You think that we are very blind to see these things? Very very sad indeed.

  13. Malawi Police can not successfully prosecute complicated cases such as this. There are so many missing requirements:
    Expertise
Scientific tools like computers a relevant softwares
Lack data base for individuals profiles including finger prints
    Lack of funds to investigate.
This Naphiyo guy should not have been arrested based on a hearsay. This hearsay should have been the base to interrogate him and after successful gathering of evidence pointing on him that would lead to successful prosecution, then they could have arrested him and charge him before the 48 hours. His arrest are just signs of panic. We are yet to see another cold murder case file.

  14. Mowa wa mtundu wanji umenewu? Kapena anayamba ndi ma sachet, mkalabongo, kachasu mwa Mwenyekondomu, Anzake a cashgate amamwa mwa Biwi, Bwandiro Ena kukwera ndege mpaka ku John osawulura mpandeni ameneyu ndi Chitsiru!

  15. So if two pipo have been arrested including the police officer who already knows the killers, why the delay? I thot these pipo can give detalis and persons who did the evil act. What are you waiting for you corrupt police officers? Or else you are afraid bkoz they are pipo that were sent by top DPP officials to kill our Njauju eti? Nde ali pa khate mukulephera kumupha khoswe? Mulungu akuona ndipo mukapsa ndiiiiiithu!

  16. chitanitu za cchangu, bola pakhale chilungamo .akamutchula wa nkulu musamubise, ndinenatu mapwiya mulupale.inu aGondwa ikanipo Mulungu pa nkhaniyi osati dziko

. . . This man may have the information. Coz as a drunk he, had the liberty to talk about so many stories like his sex escapades, frustrations or motivations at work, his family e.t.c. Now out of all these issues and stories, why did he choose to share his knowledge of Njauju’s assailants? He knows something!
. . . Also, although a person’s medulla oblongata may lose coordination of speech n balance on beer, the cerebrum’s power is always intact. Thus, you may wish to squeeze his balls till out, comes more information.

“A man’s true character comes out when he’s drunk.” – Charlie Chaplain
    ……………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………….
But if it was the one too many speaking in the bottles he was drinking, sqeeze his balls even harder to teach him a lesson on the type of jokes for imbibers; coz this issue is so serious that it needs not be joked about. Otherwise . . .

“Its useless to hold a person to anything he says while he is in love, drunk, or running for office.” – Shirley Maclaine

Nonetheless, keep it up! It shows you are doing something, by leaving no stone unturned.
