Court fines driver for disturbing Malawi VP convoy
The Lilongwe Magistrate Court on Friday slapped driver Mwamadi Assani K60,000 for being found guilty of failing to comply with laws of Malawi especially that when a presidential motorcade is passing all vehicles should stop.
The court heard that on Thursday, Mwamadi aged 27 while driving a Tata Registration Number NU 6411 deliberately cruised heavily past a vice president’s motorcade.
Mwamadi never bothered to stop despite effort by the security vehicles to block him instead he wanted to hit the first lead vehicle of the Veep’s convoy.
The court heard that the convoy had to stop to allow Assani pass with his cruising truck.
The Magistrate in passing judgment said the behaviour of Assani put the life of the second citizen at risk hence the fining of K60, 000.
Mwamadi pleaded guilty to the offence, paid the fine and cruised back on the road.

Btw, the Convoy drivers do not follow the Highway Code. I observed that they do not indicate when they are turning. One day I saw the VP’s concoy being led by a Diplomatic Car because the driver of the Lead Car did not indicate that he was turning right…the diplomat turned left anakusogolerani for some meters then you raised your siren twice before the diplomat yielded. To me the driver who has been fined by the court is a hero, mpaka convoy ya VP kuyima???? He had an urgent and important business to do worth millions, so whats MK60,000.00?????
This is a matter of following government policy. Ameneyu anadutsa convoy is just showing umbuli wake. Ine ndimakhala mayiko akunya there is no way ungadutse convoy that is against malamulo. Ameneyi achita bwino kumuchita charge mwina ena ndi umbuli wawo amphunzirapo.
The guy had an emergency to attend to ..a VP amapita kunyumba. May be he could have lost more than 60,000. or ndikanakhala ine ndikanapanga zomwezo.

I do not see or feel a problem in overtaking the VP. Those guys travel on convoy squandering our tight finances. I would overtake even APM as long as my vehicle is faster than theirs. From my own experience, I have never seen David Cameron travelling on convoy, let alone Mr V Putin. Mwina ife a Malawi ndiolemera or kupusa kwambiri which I strongly doubt.
