Court fines killer driker K100 000 in Balaka

The Balaka First Grade Magistrate Court has slapped 43 year old man Henry Mwale with a K100 000 fined after being found guilty of reckless driving resulting into the death of a 46 year old man identified by the Police as Esau Loundon.

State Prosecutor Lawrence Tchalisoni told the court that the incident happened on 22 January near Disi Area along the Liwonde-Balaka Road.

Sergeant Tchalison told the court that due to his negligence, Mwale hit a Paedesterian [Loundon] as he was trying to cross the road from one side to the other end.

The State Prosecutor pleaded with the court to hand Mwale a stiffer punishment to serve as a lesson to other would be offenders.

In passing his sentence, First Grade Magistrate Felix Mandala concurred with Segeant Tchalison that the susect desrved a stiff punishment considering the fact that a life was lost.

Mandala therefore fined Mwale with K100,000 fine or in default serve a 24 Months jail term with hard labour.

Mwale hails from Nyengera Village, T/A Dzoole in Dowa District while the deceased hails from Ngungwa Village T/A Nsamala in Balaka District.
