The court has slapped him with theft by public servant charge.

Chinomba is accused of approving procurement of medical drugs from Southern region Medical Stores in the months of February and March but the drugs never found its way to the hospital.

Three weeks ago, the police arrested the hospital’s pharmacy technician Isaac Bakali and driver Anderson Msuku in connection with the same K10 million medical drug theft.

Dr Chinomba becomes the first DHO, the most senior health personnel to be arrested in connection with the rampant drug theft.

It was not immediately known whether the government has interdicted him pending the court ruling or not.

His other two alleged accomplices are also on bail.

Good, time for accountability. If you authorise payment of drugs you should vet that they have been delivered to your health facility. If not report the pharmacist and driver to the police. This is the way to go. And we should do the same with all purchases using government funds. The hospital administrater and account should be next in line, take them to jail too. I do no think by the way the doctor stole by he and his administration team neglected their duties so they need to pay the consequences.
