Court grants bail to Maxwell Namata: Malawi cash-gate scandal
Blantyre Magistrate Court on Wednesday granted bail to Maxwell Namata , a third suspect involved in a syndicate stripping finances from government through illegal encashment of cheques using companies that did not supply any goods or services as authorities.
Anti -Corruption Bureau (ACB) arrested Namata this week in connection with their investigations in the public service finance looting.
He owns Khanye Investments together with his wife Alice who was also arrested by ACB but currently on bail.

ACB told the court Namata will face charges of “Corrupt Performance of functions by a public officer; abuse of office; theft by a person employed in the public service; (and) Obstructing officers of the ACB.”
He denies any wrong doing.
The court however released him on bail.
“Bail is granted on a personal bond of K150,000 (about $375) cash with sureties at K100,000 (about $250) subject to conditions,” Magistrate Patrick Chirwa ordered.
