Court jails man seven years for sexual assault on girl, 14
Mzimba First Grade Magistrate Court has sentenced Blessings Nhlane 23 to seven years imprisonment with hard labour for defiling a 14-year-old girl.
State Prosecutor, Sub Inspector, Isaac Imedi told the court that Nhlane had been defiling the girl who is his cousin since September 2020 and that in November she became pregnant.
“Nhlane used to visit his uncle and most of the time’s he used to find the girl alone and took this advantage to be defiling her,” said said Imedi.
Nhlane pleaded guilty to the charge and the court convicted him on his own plea,.
However in mitigation, he pleaded for leniency ,saying he is the first offender.
But the state prosecutor Imedi dismissed the mitigation factors instead prayed for stiffer custodial sentence for the convict to deter other would be offenders.
Magistrate Loness Gumbo agreed with the state and slapped Nhlane with seven years IHL.
Nhlane comes from Amon Nhlane Village in the area of Traditional Authority Mzikuhola in Mzimba District.
