Court orders rerun, nullifies  election of DPP MP in Mangochi West

Exactly 45 days before the Constitutional Court in the presidential election nullification case delivers its judgement, the High Court in Blantyre  has nullified the Mangochì West Constituency May 21 2019 Parliamentary election results and election of Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) candidate  Geoffrey Chiondo as MP has been declared invalid, citing massive irregularities.

Sylvester Kalembera, a High Court of Malawi Judge, made the determination

.Judge Sylvester Kalembera has asked Malawi Election Commission (MEC) to conduct a rerun of the election for the constituency citing various irregularities .

MEC declared Chiondo as the winner.

However, Independent candidate Simeon Harrison contested the results in court.

In his determination, Judge Kalembera faulted MEC in the manner it conducted the polls.

Harrison through his lawyer Wester Kossam claimed  to the court  that he won the 21 May Parliamentary election with 1 vote having scooped 4518 votes against Chiwondo who got 4517 votes.

“I got 4518 and DPP’s Chiwondo got 4517 but I was surprised that MEC declared Chiwondo a winner with 4527 so i went to court so that it should order MEC to announce the legitimate winner,” said Harrison.

Harrison added that what the people voted is not what MEC announced and he is seeking justice because he believes in it.

“I believe in justice that is why I went to court,” added Harrison.

  1. The appointment of Jane to this post was just a mockery to Malawi.This women has total blank headed knowledge in arithmetic.
    And all manipulation of all results were done by Aluphandi and Muhawi
    They thought their division on elections were final and could not be challenged by court.He thought court could be suppressed by Ben Phiri👌and his team

  2. This case is just a tip of the iceberg, there are many people who lost the election becoz of the manipulation of results by ECM an organisation that was supposed to conduct the elections in a free and fair manner but Alas!

    Now what more evidence does mrs Ansah need before she can resign? This mess happened on her watch…
    We also need those ECM officials who manipulated these election results in favour of Chiwondo to be arrested immediately, vote rigging is a criminal offence.

    ECM need an overhaul to clean up all the criminals who have been messing up our elections because of their corrupt behaviour ….

    In light of this court ruling let us see if that old man will still continue his tantrums that he and his party won the elections clean and square

      2. If u followed mlandu was ku mangochi judge didn’t use figures ..he concentrated on irregularities…that’s where these guys did their mathematics…. figures were beiñg altered during counting process n when filling form 66 not polowesa ku main tally centre

Believe me any candidate who will stand on dpp ticket now will carry the day no matter what achimwene ndakudandaulani kwabasi muganize kawiri ndithu.

  10. MEC this is it, start packing Jane Ansah and your team of fake Commissioners who betrayed the will of people.

    U used the same way to still votes from Chilima so that UTM shouldn’t be in majority in parliament. Chilima with UTM was top contender with MCP and not DPP but u steal the votes and put Muntharika on us .

    Just wait for another shock as the constitution court is determined to nullify presidential results as well.

  11. We need this kind of judge in the presidential case. I think some of the judges we have in the ConCourt are busy looking who is going to pay them a good Money between these guys! Saulos Chilima, Lazarus Chakwera and this old Animal Peter Mutharika. That’s why there’s too much delays on this case we have greedy judges.
