Court slaps sex workers with 4 years IHL for wounding client

Nkhotakota First Grade Magistrate Court has slapped three sex workers with four years imprisonment with hard labour each for seriously wounding a cheating male sex client.

Sex workers in for violence

According to Nkhotakota police deputy publicist Paul Malimwe, magistrate Fred Juma Chilowetsa handed down the punishment after describing the action by the three prostitutes as inhamane.

Chilowetsa heard that on March 7, 2017, the three commercial sex workers pounced on 27 year old Thokozni Mkali and beat him severely after he unceremoniously pulled out of an agreement to have paid sex with Mariam Mwahimba.

The court was told Mkali changed heart and decided to go for another girl, leaving Mwahimba, 28, waiting in vain.

Angered that she had wasted time which she could have utilised to get another client, Mwahimba mobilised his two friends and beat up Mkalimba, leaving him severely injured and admitted to Nkhotakota District Hospital.

The police arrested the three sex workers and charged them with an offence of grievous harm.

Mkali told the court that he dumped Mwahimba for another sex worker because she was busy with other men at the time he wanted to go out with her to have sex.

The other two prostitutes are Asiyatu Anusa, 20 from Nsapato Village in chief Kalonga’s area in Salima and Martha Banda, 27 from Sonthe village inchief Kalonga’s area in Salima.

Mwahimba hails from Mwanjabala village in chief Kyungu’s area in Karonga.
