History is to be made this weekend as the Central Region Beach Soccer Committee (CRBSC) is expected to launch the first ever Beach Soccer League in the country.
CRBSC General Secretary Allie Mwachande confirmed the development in an interview with Nyasa Times.
According to Mwachande, the launch will take place on 20th August, 2016 at the Sunbird Livingstonia Beach Hotel in Salima.
Mwachande said the league will run between August and December 2016 and advised all stakeholders to change their mind set on Beach soccer sport.
“We have been playing beach soccer with a social element and its high time we switch to a competative element” said Mwachande.
He also revealed that there will also be another competition involving primary and secondary schools to the tune of K200,000.00 while the Central Region league is pegged at K1 million.
“As one way of promoting and making sure that beach soccer is being played from the grassroots, we have decided to take beach soccer to Primary and secondary schools”
“Our aim is to give the kids to make a choice whether to go for football or beach soccer” said Mwachande.
The league games will be played at Livingstonia Hotel and Kambiri Lodge but CRBSC is still discussing with other lodges and hotels within the lakeshore district to accomodate them.
Meanwhile, Mwachande has called upon all interested teams to register.
