According to CRCL general secretary Eddie Kulesi, the unveiling ceremony launch will be characterised by a number of activities starting with a Rapid Open Individual Chess Tournament, which is expected to start at 8am.

Kulesi said White Elephant Group of Companies will present cash prizes totalling K100,000 to top ten players during the rapid tournament, whose registration fee has been pegged at K100,000 for players that will bring their own chess sets and K1,200 for players without chess sets.

The CRCL GS said they are expecting Sports Minister Honourable Grace Obama Chiumia to preside over the official launch.

A statement issued by White Elephant Group of Companies ahead of the launch says there will be lots of other surprises at the launch apart from the unveiling of the K1 million sponsorship package.

“If players from central region have been playing the game of chess for fun, time has now come for them to take the game as serious business. We have big plans for chess in central region and the K1 million sponsorship is just the starting point. We will be sending players abroad and central region chess will have a home,” said Managing Director for White Elephant Group of Companies Orison Chaponda.

Central Region Chess League chairman Khama Chindole is urging all chess players from the region to grace the launch in large numbers.

“We are asking chess players from all corners in the central region to come and witness the launch to show our appreciation. White Elephant Café will offer lunch to all players at a subsidised cost and there will be a get-together for all the players after the launch. This will be one of the most memorable days in the history of chess in Central Region,” said Chindole.
