Dan Lu’s new singles hit airwaves

After mesmerising the local music scene with his 2010 album ‘No Size’, which had the hit single ‘Part of Life’, one of the country’s top selling musicians, Dan Lu is back with new hits.

The new singles, off his upcoming album ‘So What?’ were released last week Thursday and are already enjoying airplay on local radios.

Recorded alongside his Rockers Band, the songs include the title track ‘So What?’, ‘Ndi mtima’ and ‘Sweeter than sugar’ which he features Zambia’s Flex.

According to the award-winning Afro Pop singer, the new 10-track album, which is his third, after ‘Shupi’ (2004) and ‘No Size’(2010), will be released in the first week of November.

Lufani: So what?

“I have completed the recordings and it is almost ready. I plan to release it on 2 November,” Dan Lu told Nyasa Times in an interview.

The artist said just like his two previous productions, the latest album centres on love. He was however quick to reveal that, “some songs are comforting while in other songs am playing an advisory role”.

“In the last album [the song] ‘Part of Life’ was soothing, both the lyrics and the instrumentation, so in this album I have such songs as well.

“ The song ‘So What?’ is focusing on people who spend time talking about others. I’m advising them to mind their business and dedicate their time to something valuable,” he said.

After its release, Dan Lu’s previous album was one of the best selling and it propelled his music career, winning him the ‘Best Afro Pop’ at the 2011 Malawian Music Awards.

Other popular songs that made him a household name included ‘Mphete’, ‘Nsanje’ as well as ‘Driver’ and Dan Lu is confident that the album in the offing will surpass ‘No Size’.

“Of course being a movement, I just do the music and people choose which one is the best, but I believe this album is on top. As an artist, I’m growing hence my music has to mature as well,” said the singer who emerged from Zembani Band.

To produce ‘No Size’, Dan Lu has worked with renowned Malawian producers namely Tapps Bandawe, Percy Manyozo, Andy and Lulu. Per his tradition, he has also worked with a Zambian producer Ben Blazer.

Dan Lu also features Malawi’s award-winning rapper Tay Grin on the remix of his previous song titled ‘Till the morning light’.

In the meantime, Dan Lu is shooting two undisclosed music videos which will be out next month. He is also expected to release a DVD of ‘So What?’
