Dave Banda to captain Malawi in Chan qualifiers
Malawi national team, the Flames caretaker Coach Gerard Phiri has appointed Kamuzu Barracks workhorse Dave Banda as the team Captain ahead of the 2018 Chan qualifying campaign against Madagascar away on 22 April including a return match in Lilongwe.
Banda will be deputized by Be Forward Wanderers central defender Lucky Malata.
Meanwhile, the Flames started training on Monday at Chiwembe Technical Centre in Blantyre.
All the players have since reported for camp.
In an interview, Flames assistant Coach Gerald Phiri who is in charge before the appointment of an expatriate head coach said all is set for the Chan campaign preparations.
“We are set to get rolling. We believe Banda as the most experienced player in the squad should be the leader and we trust his capabilities,” said Phiri.
Phiri is currently heading the Flames coaching panel as FAM awaits to employ an expatriate coach, who is due to arrive in the country this week.
Accirding to FAM, Phiri will be the first assistant to the foreign coach with Declerck Msakakuona as second assistant.
The Flames have also secured a friendly match against Kenya which they will play in transit to Madagascar on 18 April 2017.
