Daza spells out his job description as Malawi governance minister

Minister responsible for Good Governance in the Office of the President and Cabinet, Chris Daza has explained his job discription after a good section of Malawians questioned his appointment.

Speaking  in Lilongwe at Kamuzu International Airport (KIA) when he welcomed London-based Nigerian Pastor Mathew Ashimolowo, Daza said his position is aimed at changing people’s mindset.

“My ministry’s focus is at people’s integrity and character mainly to those who hold senior positions. We believe that if a person has integrity, conscious and that goodwill at heart, there is no way he can have the passion to steal something meant for the poor people,” said Daza.

He told Pastor Ashimolowo’s coming to Malawi will help this ministry.

Daza with President Banda

Ashimolowo said Daza’s role was valuable to help the country’s leader and said there is need to promote integrity.

“However, no matter what happened the nation has to hold its head high, the wrong doing of the handfull people is not the wrongfull of everyone;” he said

Pastor Ashimolowo went straight to Kamuzu Palace to meet President Joyce Banda.

“I am going to meet Her Excellency with a message of encouragement. It gives hope to see that in Africa, women are now rising up to top positions,” he said.

Daza was appointed Minister after he left Malawi Congress Party where he served as secretary-general.
