“I wish to salute the deserving students and management of the Kamuzu Academy and let me assure you that government will continue supporting different sporting activities at all levels,” said Chilima.
In his speech KA Headmaster, Francis Cooke reminded the students to focus on the original cause for the establishment of the academy which was to pursue academic excellence.
“We still appreciate the founder, Dr Hastings Kamuzu Banda’s dream for making this school the best of its kind. His legacy continues to live on as evidenced in remarkable local and international accolade which the academy has had over 34 years of its establishment,” Cooke highlighted.
Cooke also saluted the cordial relationship between Malawi Government and the People’s Republic of China that had seen the introduction of Mandarin and Chinese languages being taught at the campus.
The relationship between the two countries has attracted numerous KA teachers to go oversees to pursue academic excellence.
At the event 110 prizes were awarded to 98 students from sports categories that included; javelin, long jump, high jump, relay race and individual 100 meters race.
Manuel De Jesus of Form 6 got 5 awards including the Macleod Cup.

Why these boys and girls are not taking part in international sports arena since long? I have heard and preferred to be part as a student years back but failed due to financial problems – sports have been on the cards on this international school of high learning.
There many sport competitions around the world where Malawi is lagging behind, and the problem is with the leadership which is full of scamers and not developers.

Good show VP! This needs to be emulated in other schools in Malawi. I guess the between the standards in KA and the next closest is reducing.
Good!
