Defilement cases still on the rise in Balaka
Reports of defilement cases are refusing to die in the district of Balaka as Police in the district have just arrested a 43 year old man for allegedly defiling his 12 year old pupil.
The suspect John Mpinganjira who is a teacher at Kapalamula School was arrested after Police received a complaint that he defiled a 12 year old girl.
According to the mother of the victim, the pupil who is in Standard 6 was coaxed by the suspect during break time to escort him to Chingeni Trading Centre where she was promised soft drinks.
Upon arrival at Chingeni Trading Centre, the victim was given rice and a drink before being taken to the rest house where she was later defiled.
After the encounter, the victim was then given K500 so that she should not reveal the ordeal, however, the girl reported the issue to her mother who in turn reported the issue to Balaka Police Station.
A medical report obtained from Balaka District Hospital revealed that the victim had indeed been defiled.
Meanwhile, the suspect has been remanded to Ntcheu Prison, he is expected to appear before court soon where he will answer a case of defilement of girls under the age of 16 years which is contrary to section 138(1) of the Penal code.
Mpinganjira who has served as a teacher for 20 years comes from Nankhumwa Village, Traditional Authority Juma in Mulanje district.–Mana
