Diamonds dealt with terrible blow ahead of Rainbow Paints semis

The Diamonds Netball Club has been dealt with a big blow ahead of their semi-finals on Saturday against Glass Bank in the Rainbow Paints Top Six Series following a fresh injury to their slippery goal shooter Jessica ‘Agogo’ Mazengera.

Mazengera sustained a cut on a heel when she was disembarking from a min-bus after training at Blantyre Youth Centre.

“After training on Wednesday l boarded a min-bus on my way home to Manja Township and when disembarking from the min-bus l sustained a cut on my left heel,” said Mazengera.

She says she received treatment at Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital where she was given crutches.

Mazengera’s injury is a cause of worry for Diamonds coach Griffin Saenda, who has no option but to call Sarudzai Gondwe from the capital Lilongwe to join his squad.

She says she is so disappointed that she will miss the semi-finals and possibly finals if they will beat Glass Bank in the first semi-final match before the big game between MTL Queens and Tigresses.

“I am so sad that l will miss the games because l wanted to show people what l brought from New Zealand but anyway l am just wishing my friends all the best and l know they will do a good job,” she said.

The Glass Bank had however intensified their training on Thursday as they trained twice in the morning in readiness for the current cup holders.
