Diamonds shine over MTL Queens
Much improved Diamonds yet again underscored their superiority over MTL Queens in the OG Issa Southern Region Netball League encounter after beating those 38-30 in an early throw-off on Saturday at Blantyre Youth Centre.
Diamonds victory means that they have wrapped up the first round on the second slot behind highly flying Complex Tigresses.
Despite missing the services of their goal keeper Towera ‘Tobe’ Vinkhumbo, who was nursing an injury which she sustained during Thursdays training, Diamonds pressed for an early lead and they got it courtesy of rising shooter Jessica ‘Agogo’ Mazengera and Sarudzai Gondwe.
The combination of the two was so dreadful that it confused MTL Queens defence, who succumbed to pressure in all the quarters.
Realizing the danger MTL Queens through their goal defender Joana Kachilika, Riana Mtenje and Pilirani Msukwa tried to come back into the game but struggled to penetrate through Tigresses defence which was well marshalled by Caro ‘Ayuda’ Ngwira.
Another notable problem for MTL Queens was in their goal shooting department where they missed a lot of scoring opportunities due to lack of experience.
In all the quarters Diamonds showed no mercy as Mazengera continued to torment their opponents by notching
more baskets as her team went on to secure victory.
Diamonds coach Griffin Saenda said he was happy with the win calling it positive development.
MTL Queens captain Joana Kachilika said they will come with new ideas in the second round .
Southern Region Netball League general secretary Annie Hanjahanja hailed all the teams for stunning performances in the entire first round and assured netball lovers to expect for more competition in the second round.
