DPP touts lawyer Mhango to challenge Chihana in Rumphi 2019
The ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) has unveiled lawyer Charles Mhango as its preferred candidate to contest in Rumphi central constituency in 2019 parliamentary elections and challenge holder of the seat, Aford’s president Enock Chihana.
Mhango was introduced to the people in Rumphi by DPP regional governor for the noth, Kenneth Sanga.
Sanga said Mhango has the blessings of President Peter Mutharika to run on DPP tickets and that he had endorsed him.
“Charles Mhango is going to be a good MP for Rumphi central. He is a prominent lawyer and an education son of the soil,” said Sanga.
Sanga added: “Charles Mhango is simple the best candidate for DPP here in Rumphi.”
But Chihana said he is not moved with DPP preparations, saying “agenda for 2019 elections will not be about individuals. It is an agenda that will define politics in Malawi and I will be part of that agenda.”
He did not elaborate.
But Chihana is one of the advocates for federal system of government.
