Drunkard hubby burns wife, in police custody
Kasungu Police have arrested a 44-year-old husband man for burning his wife with hot water which he viciously poured at her.
Assistant Public Relations Officer for Kasungu, Constable Burton Mathewe identified the accused as Joseph Chunga from Mnyanja Village Traditional Authority Chitanthamapiri and the wife, also 44, Kelita Phiri of Mankhaka Village, Senior Chief Kaomba both from the same district.
Mathewe said on the 25th of August, Chunga went to his house very late while drunk and started accusing his wife of stealing his materials which he uses for fabrication.
The police assistant PRO said the suspect also accused his wife of abusing the maize flour which they had been using in their house.
“The wife tried to cool his temper but the man was so violent to an extent that he took a pot full of boiling water and poured it on her chest,” Mathewe told Nyasa Times adding the woman sustained serious wounds on her right breast and the back.
Meanwhile, the victim is being treated as an outpatient and the husband, who was arrested this week, is still behind bars and has been charged with the offence of assault occasioning to actual bodily harm and will appear before court soon.
