Dzonzi challenges Police Band to compose new songs

Inspector General of Police, Loti Dzonzi, has asked the Malawi Police Band to be creative by composing new songs to match changes that have taken place over time.

Dzonzi made the request on Sunday at Luwalika Primary School during an impromptu address to the Band before the arrival of President Joyce Banda at the launch of the Presidential Initiative on Poverty and Hunger Reduction in Mangochi.

“We have played songs that were composed a long time ago some of which do not correspond to the social, economic and political changes that have taken place in the country,” Dzonzi observed.

The IG said the police brass has a long and rich history of playing classic music and has contributed to the high performance of other bands in the Southern African Region such as Botwana.

He encouraged the Band to think outside the box and come up with songs which carry powerful and relevant messages.
