Escom regrets offloading key players, takes Chiukepo on board

Escom United has apologised to its supporters for  releasing  over 10 key players at the beginning of the 2012 season.

The club chairman Fanuel Nkhono disclosed this on Wednesday in an interview inside MJI FM sports talk show  Mpira ku Malawi.

According to Nkhono, the team fired some of the players with an aim of raising cash to assist the club which is being run without sponsorship.

“We offloaded the players knowing that other clubs might be interested to buy them and that the money realised would help in sponsoring the team which still has no sponsor. But we have realised that we made a very big mistake as the team is now struggling to perform,” said Nkhono.

Chiukepo: Back at Escom

On the list of fired players included Heston Munthali, Chimango Kaira and James Chilapondwa who are all at the moment enjoying good form at Bullets FC.

Escom currently seats at the bottom position in the 15 member log table and is currently demanding the return of its players from Bullets claiming the agreement was that they join Bullets on a three month loan which expires Thursday.

The club has since urged Bullets to pay undisclosed sum to keep f the players.

New signings

Meanwhile, Nkhono confirmed that the club has welcomed back its three players who crossed the borders in search of greener pastures.

The three are former APR striker Victor Nyirenda, former Orlando Pirates striker Chiukepo Msowoya and former South Africa 1st division side Carara Kicks midfielder Jacob Ngwira.

The club chairman said the players are set to start playing in the league’s  second round.
