Escom sack coach Manda: Nankhuni and ‘Nginde’ not spared

Charles Manda’s tortured spell as Escom United head coach has come to an end as the Super League club has given him the boot.

The club’s chairman Fanuel Nkhono confirmed with Nyasa Times on Tuesday afternoon about the ousting of Charles Manda. The axe has also not spared Manda’s backroom staff including assistant coaches Aubrey Nankhuni and Mac Donald ‘Nginde’ Mtetemera.

Nkhono said the sack has been effected following the club’s dreadful performance all round.

“They have failed to deliver,” he said.

Nkhono said the results and performances of the team have not been good enough and were showing no signs of improving.

“We felt our only option was to make a change at this time,” Nkhno told Nyasa Times.

The club has handed over coaching duties to senior players.

“As of now we have appointed three players to look after the team for the coming four games before mapping the way forward,” said Nkhono.

The players, who have been left with the mantle to coach the out-fit, are Noel ‘Amfumu’ Mkandawire, Kondwani Gawani, Chiukepo Msowoya and Jacob Ngwira.

“Let us wait and see how these players will perform. This is not new because our colleagues from Silver Strikers did the same after firing Daniel Dzinkambani,” he said.

The electricians, who lost 1-0 to Mighty Wanderers last Saturday in the league game, have a tricky fixture this coming Saturday in Nchalo against the Salima based soldiers Mafco F.C before facing Epac F.C and Mighty Wanderers in the Standard Bank Cup.
